1. Introduction
Welcome to "The Sidebar" (the "Extension"). This Privacy Policy describes how Design Daisuki Club LLP. ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our browser extension. We are committed to respecting your privacy and ensuring complete transparency about how your data is handled.
2. Information Collection and Use
"The Sidebar" is engineered to operate locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, store, or sell your personal data, browsing history, or sidebar configurations to any external servers.
- User Configuration Data: The specific URLs, titles, and preferences you add to the sidebar are stored locally on your browser using the Chrome Storage API. If you use Chrome's "Sync" feature, this data is encrypted and synced across your devices by Google, subject to Google's privacy policies. We do not have access to this data.
- Browsing Activity: We do not track, log, or analyze the websites you visit.
- Personal Information: We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other personally identifiable information.
3. Permissions and Technical Usage
To deliver its features, the Extension requires specific permissions. Here is a detailed explanation of why each is needed:
- "Read and change all your data on the websites you visit" (
host_permissions & declarativeNetRequest):
- Why it's needed: The core feature of this extension is to let you view any website in the sidebar. Many modern websites (e.g., Notion, Discord) use security headers (like
X-Frame-Options or Content-Security-Policy) that prevent them from loading inside a frame.
- How we use it: We use these permissions solely to strip these specific restriction headers from the network requests of the sites you choose to load in the sidebar.
- Our Guarantee: We do not inspect page content, inject scripts, modify page data (other than the headers mentioned), or track your activity on these sites. The permission is strictly functional to make the iframe work.
- "Read and change your bookmarks" (
bookmarks):
- Why it's needed: To provide the "Import from Bookmarks" feature, which simplifies setup.
- How we use it: The extension reads your bookmarks tree only to display them in the settings menu, allowing you to select and copy them to your sidebar. We do not delete or modify your existing bookmarks in Chrome.
storage:
- Why it's needed: To remember your setup.
- How we use it: To save your list of pinned sites and UI preferences (like "Dark Mode" or "Hide Titles") locally.
4. Third-Party Websites
When you load a website (e.g., Todoist, ChatGPT) inside "The Sidebar," you are interacting directly with that service. These third-party sites operate under their own privacy policies and may collect data (such as login cookies) just as they would in a regular browser tab. "The Sidebar" acts only as a window (frame) to these sites and does not intercept your data.
5. Data Security
Because your data is stored locally on your device, it is protected by the security protocols of your browser and operating system. We do not maintain any user databases.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify users of significant changes via the Chrome Web Store listing.
